Hi everyone, hope you’re having a great week! As promised, I wanted to share five maternity wardrobe essentials! Most of them are even perfect for those not expecting – as I’m a firm believer of getting the most out of what you buy.
1. The Little Black Dress
I’ve quickly become a fan of midi dresses that stretch with your growing belly. There are SO many great options available – depending on your budget. In my opinion, a little black dress (or any color of preference) is definitely an essential because you can style it multiple ways. A simple black dress can be worn during the day with a pair of comfortable flats, booties or sneakers. It can also be dressed up with a pair of heels or over-the-knee boots for a night out. You can also glam it up by adding some layers (denim jacket, sleeveless vest, blazer) and a statement piece of jewelry – like a necklace or pair of earrings. I rounded up some of my favorites for you below. I’ve been buying non-maternity dresses but just sizing up so I’ll have room for my growing belly.
2. Maternity Jeans
I think this is the only item that I have purchased with my first and second pregnancy that was specifically labeled ‘maternity.’ These, obviously – are a MUST. As much as I’m a fan of leggings, joggers and sweatpants – sometimes you want to switch it up and wear a pair of jeans. Majority of the maternity jeans out there come with a belly band – that come up all the way over your belly. I’m not a huge fan of those because if you wear a blouse, the band (whether it’s a different color or maybe due to its thickness) – is visible through your top! I found some great options for denim at Madewell. They are cut low in the front, which I prefer. If the price point is not within your budget, I also rounded up some affordable options below. H&M and Topshop have great options for maternity jeans too.
3. Cotton T-Shirt
Whether you’re pregnant or not – a cotton t-shirt definitely makes the list for 5 wardrobe essentials! It’s a great layering piece – with a cardigan, blazer, jacket – you name it! There are a bunch of maternity options out there, but in my opinion it’s best to size up on a non-maternity option so you can wear it later too. My favorite one is from Free People; I bought it in white and gray so far!
4. Tunic
A tunic has been my savior when it comes to a growing belly. It is for sure a maternity wardrobe essential. I’ve been in love with Free People – as you are aware. They have the best flowy tops; I’m not even upset about the price point because I’m getting a lot of use out of them now and will continue to wear them later. Below are some of my faves, which you have seen me style most of them!
5. Vest and/or Blazer
A blazer or vest is always on the top of my list. For work, I’ve been wearing a blouse and blazer literally everyday. A flowy vest is a great option too, to mix up your layering. It also compliments your growing belly in my opinion. And these you can also purchase non-maternity!
Thanks for stopping by; hope you find this post useful!

Yes girl! I whole heartedly agree with all of these. I definitely invested in some good maternity jeans. Tunics and great layering pieces like vests and blazers were my BFFS.
