Friday Feature: The Best Friendship, Thanks to Blogging

Today’s Friday Feature is all about my biff Tyler, blogger and writer of Girl Meets Gold. I have to say that I’m very back and forth about blogging, I hate it one day and I want to quit – and the next day I have all this inspiration to get as much content as possible.  Throughout my 3 and a half years of my “blogging” career, one thing has remained stable and constant – and that is my friendship with Tyler.

If I have to be thankful for anything about what the blogging world brought me – it’s her! I swear, I’m so mushy and you’re probably laughing at me but I’m so grateful to have a genuine friend like her.

Some Background:

We met THROUGH INSTAGRAM when we were still taking the over-the-head-selfie shots (which we can’t seem to master anymore) and posting our ACTUAL outfits on a daily basis.

We started to comment on each other’s photos all the time and after a few message and email exchanges, we exchanged phone numbers. I swear, I think we have texted each other EVERYDAY since.  Unless one of us is traveling, doesn’t have service or is just busy with other important life things that come up, we ALWAYS talk.  Even my family makes fun of me and always say – oh Tyler just texted you!

How We Met in Person:

The more we talked, the more we realized how much we have in common. I mean, we agree on everything (except some photo choices haha).  We practically finish each other’s thoughts and sentences.  In 2015, Tyler had this incredibly amazing idea to come to New York for fashion week – hello best idea ever! Without being familiar with the crazy subway lines in NYC, she found her way to Columbus Circle where I was filming a campaign at the time.  I was on like “take 200” because I was messing up my lines so much when I saw her for the first time! She was so supportive and I was so glad that she made it!

We went to the rewardStyle party together also, where we saw and met a lot of other blogger girls that we keep in touch with often.  I wish I had more time to spend with Tyler while she was here, but it was such a busy time with family events!

I Hate You Instagram, But Thanks for Introducing Me to Tyler

So I don’t know if you’re like me, but I hate Instagram (LOL). It was great two-three years ago. But now, it is awful.  No one sees my posts, my engagement has gone down by a whole LOT, when I have better pictures and I’m actually planning out my feed.  When I used to not care, I did way better…? What’s the deal? Thanks, algorithm!

Tyler and I go through the “I hate Instagram” rant religiously.  But ironically, Instagram is the reason why I actually have the bestest friend I can ever ask for.  So, can I really hate it that much? HAHA – yes, just give me back my normal likes and engagement.

Wishing that we can see other more often – of course she has to live across the country in California …!

Purpose of this Post? 

Honestly, I just wanted to share a little bit about a genuine friendship that I’m so grateful for.  Blogging can be intense and it’s always a comparison game, whether you want it to be or not.  It’s VERY easy to compare yourself with others, it’s just a click away.  It’s easy to judge and to make meaningless comments, but at the end of the day – it’s important to support each other.  I don’t talk about it often (or at all), but blogging is very, very discouraging – especially when you’re trying to fit it in with your full-time job and two little kiddos.  When women support each other, who are in the SAME industry – it makes all the difference. Everyone has something going on in their life behind those pretty pictures that are posted.  I’m just thankful I have a friend like Tyler who understands me and is my go-to person for complaints when my husband is tired of listening to me – haha!
